Tennessee Summer Youth Employment
The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), funded by the State of Tennessee, is being jointly offered by the Knoxville Area Urban League (KAUL) and the Urban League of Middle Tennessee. This program, the nation’s largest youth employment initiative, links young people aged 16 to 24 with chances for career exploration and paid work experiences during the summer and beyond. 20 participants can engage in up to 200 work hours, earning $16 per hour, with a maximum total benefit of $3,200. 10 participants can engage in up to 150 total hours, at $16 per hour; earning up to $2,400. How to sign up as a participant:
Participants must register with the State of TN Department of Labor:Go to https://jobs4tnwfs.tn.gov/
How to sign up as an employer:
- Public, private, and non-profit companies can participate
- Company must have workman’s comp insurance
- Participant must be hired as an employee, No stipends, No 1099s
- Employee/participant wages will be reimbursed by the ULMT
- Must follow rules for youth under 18

Participant Qualifications:
- Participants must be between the ages of 16 – 24
- Low income and foster care are given priority
- Participants and Employers must register at the ULMT / SYEP program site
- Participants must also register at Jobs4tn https://jobs4tnwfs.tn.gov/
- Participants must provide a copy of their Student ID or Drivers License
