2018 Shoes for School

Saturday, August 4, 2018

9am – 12pm

Caswell Park

620 Winona St, Knoxville, TN 37917

Shoes for School is an annual back-to-school event that provides new shoes and school supplies for more than 1,200 area children. Each spring, we work with other non-profit agencies to help us identify and register children age 5-12 who most need the help. Purchasing shoes and school supplies for over 1,200 children is a big undertaking, but seeing the delight on the kids’ faces and knowing that providing these basic necessities helps them feel more comfortable and confident with their peers makes it all worthwhile.

This year’s Shoes for Schools is Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Caswell Park.

This year’s event is sponsored by Covenant Health. Learn more here.

We invite you to support 2018 Shoes for School by clicking the “Donate” button below or mailing a check to the Urban League at PO Box 1911 Knoxville, TN 37901. Sponsorship for one pair of shoes is only $10.

Another opportunity for involvement is booth sponsorship. Booth sponsors are an important part of Shoes for School. Each year, about 35 organizations – including corporations, sororities, area non-profits, churches and others – host booths that include a game or activity for the kids and give away school supplies. Shoes for School is an exciting, carnival-like atmosphere, and it is an excellent community service/team building project for employees. If your organization is interested in participating or if you’d like more information about the 2018 Shoes for School, contact Ebony Petty at or call 865-524-5511.

Volunteer at the event.  Come see for yourself how rewarding Shoes for Schools is for our children. Contact Quineka Moten at for more information about volunteering.

Covenant Health to sponsor Knoxville Area Urban League’s annual ‘Shoes for School’

Covenant Health has become the largest sponsor for the Knoxville Area Urban League’s 16th Annual “Shoes for School” program on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018.

An impactful program hosted by the Knoxville Area Urban League, “Shoes for School” provides free new shoes and school supplies to more than 1,200 students. Children and their families, area businesses, nonprofits, church groups and other volunteers interact at this festive event that offers games and community camaraderie.

In addition to its sponsorship, Covenant Health will provide a volunteer team of employees to staff a tent full of fun and goodies for the children.

“Covenant Health is proud to support the Urban League’s ‘Shoes for School’ program,” said Jim VanderSteeg, president and CEO of Covenant Health. “Making sure children have the basic needs to start the new school year is critical to both their well-being and their academic success.”

“Shoes for School” is a signature event for the Knoxville Area Urban League, and Phyllis Y. Nichols, president and CEO of the organization, welcomed the sponsorship commitment of Covenant Health.

“We are so pleased to announce that Covenant Health has joined us as our largest sponsor,” Nichols said. “They understand the difference that this makes to our area children and are helping us grow this joyful and important program.”
