eHOME America – eHome America works closely with certified counseling agencies to help homebuyers and homeowners. The courses offered here have been professionally created, reviewed by various agencies, and certified by governing bodies. When going through a course, you will be connected with an agency you are already engaged with, or with an agency providing the requested service locally, your local partner. Counselors from the agency will communicate with you as needed to complete your education and help with any additional needs you have. Most agencies will require a follow up session before issuing the certificate of completion.

Homeownership Workshop – Offers comprehensive education and counseling to prepare families who want to purchase a home. The workshops cover the details in selecting, purchasing, financing and maintaining a home. The workshop meets all requirements for FHA & THDA loans, and Down Payment Assistance from the City of Knoxville or Knox County. Foreclosure Workshop – sessions provide an opportunity for clients who are having challenges with their mortgage to learn more about the various foreclosure prevention options available. These sessions are typically the first step in the Urban League’s counseling process and are the first and third Thursday of every month. On the first Thursday of the month, the workshop begins at 11:00 a.m. and ends at 12:00 p.m. On the third Thursday of the month, the workshop begins at 5:00 p.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m. Pre-registration is required. Spring 2017 CO.STARTERS Entrepreneurship Training Class – Develop and fine-tune your business idea, building models based on your assumptions, tweaking your next steps through real-time customer feedback, learning valuable management and marketing skills and receiving constructive feedback from advisers, peers and successful business owners. You will also be assigned a counselor from SCORE of Greater East Tennessee or the Tennessee Small Business Development Center who will meet 1-on-1 with class participants to assist with developing their business plan.
Deadline to register for the program is Monday, February 20th, 2017. Classes begin Saturday, March 4th, 2017 and continue every Saturday until May 6th, 2017.
After the ten week training program, class participants will have an opportunity to compete in a pitch contest for $5,000 to help start and/or expand their business. Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management – Course instruction covers topics such as how to prepare a business plan; marketing; identifying your competition; forecasting numbers; how to price; how to pay sales tax; and how to set up your business, i.e., a sole proprietorship or LLC. Personal Finance – This four-week course educates students about a number of personal financial issues, including financial aspects of career planning; the time value of money; money management and budgeting; consumer credit; housing decisions; the role of life insurance, health insurance and disability insurance; estate planning issues; investing fundamentals; retirement plan options including the 401K/403b and IRA options; bankruptcy law changes; and other topics of interest.
